WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS

I just thought I'd like to share a few thoughts that I had on Pan's Labyrinth... Perhaps a twisted view, but I'm sure all of you would find some echo in your own hearts...

This Story I believe is about Love and Human perseverance, and can be adapted to everyones needs and concerns as they go through their life.

Del Toro was brought up as a strict Catholic, and often, thought about deep things, that though Christian in essence can be heart felt by anyone here, regardless of whether they have a religion, or whether they just believe in doing good to all mankind...

Our story starts and ends with Ofelia, we take all our encouragement from her...

Pan's Labyrinth begins with Ofelia being torn apart from her father who she lost through an untimely death; perhaps some of you have really experienced family problems, I haven't, but I can imagine... Ofelia, has to be taken away from her father, and has to start to call another person "father"... Can someone really take the place of someone you really love? Ofelia's trouble's start at the very beginning of the story.

But though people often come into trouble, yet we find that sometime there is a start of something good. Though Ofelia had all these problems, yet she had the faith to realise that there is a real fantasy world out there, and that she was no ordinary girl, she was a princess. I think Del Toro wants us to see here that, we are not just ordinary people, we are special to someone. Also at this time Ofelia realised that she had a friend in Mercedez, doubtless everyone has had a special friend...?

anyway, so in all her problems she started to realise that there was some good left in the world... and that it is worth living for (and eventually dying for)

Ofelia Gets three tasks that she has to get right. We can interperate this as a human's job to do good to all people. Well Ofelia gets them all right until she eats something next to the Pale man. She was greedy, and she wanted some of those tasty looking grapes. Perhaps sometimes it may seem alright to just take one thing... But Ofelia had to realise that this could cost the lives of the Fairies. Often times a king is greedy for land or whatever, and he loses lots of soldiers over getting what he really didn't need at all. Del Toro wants us to watch out that we are not greedy.

So Ofelia comes to her final test... the greatest test of all: LOVE. She is told to sacrifice her baby brother... But in the end love prevails and ofelia gives her own blood, and finally makes it to her kingdom.

The kingdom can be interperated as Heaven, or whatever we are spending our lives to achieve... But the most important thing is that Ofelia never gave up, or said she can't complete the tasks... and finally it was love, not violence or anything, it was love that finally got her to her kingdom :)

I just want to mention 2 other things Ofelia's father and mother were seen in Her kingdom, and also the Fairies that where eaten by the Pale Man where there too...

Thank-you for reading, and I hope you find it interesting,

Mbuckingham.

yes kinda!

yes good analysis!

this movie describe the reality of our cruel world, the egoism and wickedness of human being, all child livind into the civil wars, the violence in many nations, the hunger.
the inocence and the fantasy is the way of a child to survive in this world and keep the inocent hapness, smile and amuse.
the movie was excelent! iden 'Life Is Beautiful' with similar thematic.

Yes "Life Is Beautiful" is another great movie... Reality may be too hard to face, so we can take refuge in a fantasy world... yeah Ofelia was extremely brave :)

Inspirational - May 21, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah Ofelia was able to get away to a fantasy world which for her turned out be be real in then end. Too bad all the fantasy worlds we dream of are not real lol.
