Title: A question that has been eluding me

this has been eluding me for some time now . . .
why do good bands after they get a greatest hit like (Breaking Benjamin: Diary of Jane) never try to make more songs like it?
I don't get it, you'd think they would take a hint that their song was popular and make more songs similar to it.
I see it time and time again:
Like Trapt had "Headstrong" I've listened to all of their music and nothing compares.
Eighteen Visions had the absolutely outstanding song "Victim" and everything else is so so
Insomnuim had "The Gale" one of the freaking BEST all out hardcore rock melodies i have ever heard and all their other stuff is meh.
Powernam 5000 had "Action' (Which was featured in Nascar 04) . . . all of their other stuff is not even close.
I could keep on going folks but I think i have made my point . . . lol

They play what they like, and people's taste's change over time.
And sometimes, bands may not have as much fun making music that they use to, their ready for something new.

yeah it just seems though that they have like one awesome track then everything else is quieter and slower and not as amped up on the awesome hard guitars. I dunno maybe it's just me but personally I love it when it's all out hardcore ak

In the case of Breaking Benjamin, Diary of Jane was good, but So Cold, and other songs like that, were better IMHO.

Its a vicous cycle, how it works out for some bands.
It does great for some and ruins other.
Good Chorlette's first albums were great, but their newer ones only have a couple of good songs on them.
