Title: PSP 3000 unhackable

purplefreak3 - January 28, 2009 10:14 PM (GMT)
There seems to be alot of video game player here so do any of you own/play PSP (playstation portable) They released a new version of the PSP, PSP-3000 couple months ago which is unhackable, prior PSPs (all 1000s and some 2000s series) were hackable being able to put custom software on the PSP or play emulators on the system making it a very powerful system when you could do this. The PSP hacker community currently working on ways to get access to the system once again. There is currently a Gripshift exploit that can be done if you are on 5.02 firmware or below (suggested FW below 5 though) that is available to the public but if you have firmware 5.03 you can not use this exploit cause it was patched on that version. There is also a kernal exploit that is not available to the public that can launch homebrews (the custom stuff). It quite a bummer that sony modified the new PSPs so this stuff can not be done, what other peoples view on this.

yeah I've never owned a psp or gameboy, most of my stuff is console type.

Why are they trying to hack the psp?

genericgamer - January 28, 2009 10:37 PM (GMT)
Well, people hacked it for different reasons, some to play downloaded games, others for programs or applications that Sony didn't have anything for. Just stuff like that. I have a 1000 series PSP, but never really felt the need to hack it or anything like that.

interesting, so they are trying to make it un-hackable so no one can have 3rd party custom stuff basically??

genericgamer - January 28, 2009 10:42 PM (GMT)
Pretty much. all in the name of combating piracy of course. Not that it really makes it better. just makes people try to hack it more really. Not that I know this of course

To put their own software. It's cool...

I agree with being able to mod these systems. I like to use the car point of view....

When you are own a car you can change the motor out, add better tires, anything to make your car perform better or look better.

I see game systems as the same thing. If I have a PSP or XboX, why shouldn't I be able to modify it. What if I want it to play movies I make in my own format. I bought the thing, I should be able to do what I want with it.

Yes its true many people do the "wrong" thing but that goes with anything. Even in cars, you can add all these speed boosting gadgets and there are people who will disobey speed laws. (I recommend you obey all speed laws)

It's all up to the person. Who am I to tell people they can't modify what I sold them...Once they bought it, they own it..Do what you want!! Just don't hurt anybody.

LOL I don't know what I'm ranting about laugh2

Bleh...

purplefreak3 - January 29, 2009 02:39 AM (GMT)
Yea they say they do it cause of piracy and security reasons but it mainly because they don't want anything run on the PSP that not approved by Song (they don't make money off it) Yes some use for piracy but there is some very good stuff you can put on PSP that not piracy. Well they already exploited the system just need to wait for them to gain access the kernal (what allows modifying)

Must find Kernel Sanders!!

A "HEN" has been release for the PSP which works on the PSP-3000 a "HEN" is a homebrew enabler allowing you to use custom programs and emulatars. A less powerful version of custom firmware but gets the job done. /winner//

woo-hoo Sony pulling out all the stops now they have licensed Hannah Montana and going on step further then the previous bundle they released (Ratchet and Clank) everyone knows Hannah Montana stuff sells and this one comes with game, movie and memory stick like previous bundle but this memory stick is 2GB instead of only 1GB but guess what you better believe that this system will come with Firmware 5.50 which you might or might not know makes the PSP once again unhackable cause the new hack (HEN) will not work on firmware 5.50 Gotta give props to Sony for that ideal they sure do love the carrot and stick method.

purplefreak3 - May 11, 2009 11:41 PM (GMT)
that is system is banghead if you want to play homebrew as you need 5.03 firmware and I'm sure that new one will come with 5.50 firmware

ralphalf - May 11, 2009 11:42 PM (GMT)
Ah the ongoing battle between hackers and companies.

purplefreak3 - May 13, 2009 06:06 AM (GMT)
Right before the PSP-3000 was released one of the last PSP-2000s to be made had a motherboard so strong and so secure that even Sony could not fix the systems. So the motherboard in between the Super motherboard (TA-088 V3) and the and the PSP-3000 motherboard (TA-090 V2) was TA-090 V1 which is a rare motherboard which is nearly identical to TA-088 V2 motherboard which is the last know motherboard known to be able to install custom firmware. All Current PSPs come with the TA-090 V2 motherboard and can not install custom firmware. All though the TA-090 V2 motherboard can not install custom firmware it not unhackable anymore as long as you have the 5.03 firmware which allows you to use HEN (homebrew Enabler). All furture PSP will most likely ship with firmware 5.50 which will not allow the TIFF expoilt to run the HEN. It quite funny that Sony created a motherboard so secure that even they couldn't fix the PSPs. laugh2

ralphalf - May 14, 2009 04:34 AM (GMT)
Ha LOL

Well that's what they get for making it hard to modify. Hey Purple, how do you know so much about all the motherboards and stuff. That's some impressive info you give out.

purplefreak3 - June 3, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
Curse you Sony with your carrot and stick method dam you!!! They released Final Fantasy VII on the PSN network which will allow you to download it on your PSP but you have to have 5.50 firmware!

ralphalf - June 11, 2009 06:56 AM (GMT)
What's carrot stick?

purplefreak3 - June 11, 2009 03:40 PM (GMT)
Carrot and Stick is where someone will offer you something in order for them to get you to do something.

In Sony's case they want users to update to firmware 5.50 so you can't expolit their system anymore so they offer games that people been wanting and add some new content to the new firmware, works for some people cause the user is getting something and Sony is also getting what they want. But this has been solved as a GEN-A expolit has been released for firmware 5.03 allowing you to use features of custom firmware such as a version spoofer making it look like you are on 5.50 when you really on 5.03

I don't see the point in the hacked system. I've never messed around with a hacked one, I like the stock configuration myself. What advantages does it give you really?

factory settings do not let the PSP do half the stuff it actually can do.

Factory PSP setttings (out of the box):
Play PSP games that is about it.

Custom PSP settings (not hacked)

Locationfree play (can watch tv) - have to buy base station to use.
Call people using Skype
