Title: Ofelia Drugging or Killing Vidal??

When she drugged him she should have poured the whole
bottle in his drink instead in using the dropper.

I think she is a kind girl, and even though he was mean, she did not want to kill him . . .

Sadly that kindness is what got her killed.
A few more drops would have been better.
This reminds me a book where these kids could
go inside movies.

yeah but that what let Ofelia be and enter her kingdom because she was not willing to kill an innocent (her brother).

In fairness however, Vidal was no innocent and even if she'd dumped the bottle in, she wouldn't have done so intending to kill him, she'd just be making sure he was knocked out. Then again she may not have wanted Vidal to realize he was drugged by overpowering the taste of his liquor with that of the medicine. After all she meant to escape without his realizing it, and she wouldn't have wanted to tip her hand by overdoing the sedative. In any case, even if her ticket to that other world didn't hinge on it, I wouldn't want her to compromise her innocence over the likes of Vidal by killing him; I would want him dead, but it shouldn't be her lot to do it.

you make a lot of good points i think Del Toro knew exactly what Ofelia was supposed to do with the certain amount of sedative.

We were getting into a whole other great topic so i split them to stay more organized ^_^
I think is is a very interesting topic actually in the way that Ofelia was trying to make Vidal go to sleep.
Considering she was a little girl and I bet she used the same amount on herself to go to sleep some night she put in a little more so he would be more sleepy. I don't think in her heart she ever thought of actually killing him. She was a young girl and even though he called her a b**ch and said "if anyone enters this room, kill the girl first" I don't think Ofelia EVER had hatred in her heart . . . . she had a good heart and had no intention to kill anyone or anything even when they were so cruel and unkind to her.
It's the same in real life, most of the nicest people get taken advantage of because they don't take revenge or have hatred in thier haerts . . . . kind of like me.

When someone asked if I could lend them a
pencil I say yes. If they don't give it back I have to make up
something like I don't have any so I don't have to say no.
Ofelia didn't want him to notice the drug she even
mixed it in to make sure. She definitely wouldn't kill her brother
so it was her innocent blood that let her into the kingdom.
If she killed Videl she wouldn't be innocent.
Even though he had it coming.

yeah you're absolutely right, it is what makes the ending so emotional at the end considering the fact we she a little girl we had grown to love during the entire movie bleeding to death on the ground in the end, it's rather sad.

Heartbreaking actually.
The thing, too, is that just as Ofelia's actions at the end affirm her basic innocence, Vidal's affirm his fundamentally evil nature. All of which ultimately demonstrates the the motto etched above the entrance to the labyrinth.

As I mentioned in another post, fatum is very well chosen, since the word can also mean 'doom' or 'death', which, if intentional, was surely meant to foreshadow the end for both Ofelia and Vidal. Layers upon layers, yet another reason to love this movie.

The movie is indeed very in depth when you really take the time to observe it all, the human emotions Ofelia protrays is rather amazing to say the least and really brings you to a higher level of what it means to be human and just how life is and how things don't always turn out the way we want them too.
Seeing her die in the real world at the end is truly tragic to say the least . . .. powerful moment in the movie.
