Pan's Labyrinth NEVER says or states that Ofelia's fantasy world was actually real or not . . . .so what do you think?? Do you think Ofelia was making it all up in her head or did it really exist but none of the other people could see it??
Choose one choice . . .

I beleive it was real* and the only reason Ofelia could see it all the adults around her could not was becasue they did not have an open mind or heart like Ofelia did. She could see becasue she was acceptant and beleived . . .
*When I mean real, I mean in the movie, not real life as we know it today lol

I agrre her world could only be seen by her because the adults were to ignorant, and didnt belive in it.

oops I pressed wrong one, I mean't it is real! I pressed yes it wasn't real... can I change it?

I think it was real.
She was also the "re-encarnation" I guess you could say, of the princess.
so I think thats why only she could see the fantasy world.

I think you're right Guillermo del Toro might be the only one who knows the real answer since he made it . .. but he left it open for debate which makes it fun to talk about ^_^

Actually as I understand, the story-line was derived from an old Spanish fairy tale and Del Toro just added the characters and made the story a bit more interesting... so actually Del Toro probably doesn't even know himself. And I think the whole idea of a fantasy story is to not have a deffinate answer for everything, but for people to be able to relate it to their own life!
But as far as I am concerned Ofelia is a princess and does even now live in her kingdom! and it was trough love and sacrifice and determination that she was able to get there :)

Yes I like how you explained all that ^_^ I kinda like the idea of us (the audience) having to figure it out for ourself . . . . I like the idea of Ofelia being a princess and her world not being fake but actualy real . .. but only she could enter it because she had the heart and will to do so becasue she sacrificed herself . . .
It's asking a LOT when you think about it, for a CHILD to lay down her life . . . .and she has not even been in the world that long . . . . quite powerful indeed.

I think it was real.
when she was running away from the captain in the labyrinth
the walls opened up and she went straight through.
Your imagination cant make you walk through walls.
or can it?
*tries*
ow...no it cant.

yeah you're right, I never realized that yes-
I think Del Toro in the commentary even mentioned they made it like the Labyrinth was helping her but not Vidal.

Plus it makes me feel better that in the story all she did wasn't for naught.
